Help & Getting Started
How to set up Sentrio IP Cam, plus answers to the most common questions. Accessing the camera while away has its own guide.
Getting started
- Open the app and follow the short setup assistant: choose your language and grant the camera, microphone and notification permissions.
- Position the phone with a view of the scene and connect it to a charger. For continuous operation, allow the battery optimization exception.
- Tap “Start server”. The app shows an address like http://192.168.0.20:8080 along with the login credentials.
- Open that address in a browser on a PC, tablet or second phone on the same Wi-Fi and sign in. That's where the live view and all controls run: recording modes, motion and sound detection, photo, time-lapse and more.
Frequently asked questions
I can't open the web interface.
The camera phone and the viewer must be on the same Wi-Fi. Enter the address exactly as shown in the app, including the port (for example :8080). On guest Wi-Fi networks the router's client isolation often prevents devices from reaching each other; use the regular Wi-Fi instead.
The browser warns about the certificate when using HTTPS.
Sentrio generates its HTTPS certificate itself on the phone; there is no external authority vouching for it. The warning is therefore expected: confirm it once (for example “Advanced”, then “Proceed anyway”). The connection is encrypted afterwards.
The stream stops once the display has been off for a while.
Keep background operation enabled in the settings and grant the battery optimization exception. Some manufacturers such as Xiaomi, Huawei or Samsung add their own battery savers that still put apps to sleep; exclude Sentrio in the manufacturer's battery settings. A charger is recommended for continuous streaming.
Where do I find my recordings and photos?
By default in the camera phone's gallery (albums Movies/Sentrio and Pictures/Sentrio). You can pick a custom folder in the settings; in addition, the app can upload recordings automatically to your NAS (SMB, FTP or SFTP).
What are the login credentials for the web interface?
The app shows the current credentials right next to the address once the server is running. You can change username and password in the settings under Server & Access.
Motion or sound detection does not trigger.
Both are enabled and configured in the web interface. For motion, check the monitored image area; for sound, lower the loudness threshold.
Can I access the camera while away from home?
Yes, most securely via VPN into your home network, for example with FritzBox WireGuard or Tailscale. The step-by-step guide is on the “Sentrio on the go” page. We advise against exposing the camera directly to the internet.
